It’s Summertime and Working Parent Stress is High.

As school years come to a close, parents who work outside of the home typically have a carefully strung together series of camp sessions for their children to occupy the kids while their parents are at the office. However many folks find themselves scrambling to find alternatives when the camp hours don’t quite fit the actual dimensions of their work days, the Associated Press reported.

“Many parents are finding that camp hours don’t mesh well with their work schedules, especially as the economy forces them to work longer hours or take on second jobs to make ends meet,” AP said. “So they’re forced to get creative, coordinating with other parents on drop offs and pick ups, hiring baby sitters for after-camp care or taking days off from work here and there.”

Meanwhile, a blogger for The Detroit News lamented not having the summer off to be with her 11-month-old daughter like her husband and others in their family who are teachers. “Summer is cruel for the working mom who isn’t a teacher,” wrote Kate Storey. (June 2009)
