The Silicon Valley Moms Blog this week ran a long post, including several links to news articles, about an ongoing discussion they’ve been having about the virtues of a flexible workplace that allows parents to work and have time with their families.
Acknowledging that many businesses resist offering employees part-time options, blogger Sarah Granger said that it can be done effectively, writing: ". . . [A]s someone who's been a manager in a variety of organizations with flexible options, I think that managing part-timers is only difficult when corporate policies and practices make it this way. It's much easier to do this kind of thing in smaller, more flexible organizations where piles of paperwork and processes aren't encumbering the ability to manage."
