If you happen to be around the National Mall in Washington, D.C. this summer, don’t be surprised if you run into a large group of women breastfeeding their babies!
A national "nurse-in" is scheduled for August 4, 2012, as part of an effort to raise awareness about the fact that it’s not illegal to nurse in public.
It's organized by nursing mother Rachel Papantonakis, who told the Washington Post that she was inspired by recent news reports about breastfeeding women being harassed while breastfeeding in public places.
“It got me thinking,” she said, "Wouldn’t it be cool to have a nurse-in at the National Mall? Just a bunch of nursing women, their babies, and supporters spending an afternoon on the Mall and nursing when they needed to in order to raise awareness about the law.”
The event, which even has it's own Facebook Page , is slated to coincide with World Breastfeeding Week.
