Difficult Kids Need Positive Parenting

A study released in the medical journal Translational Psychiatry found that children with “a gene variation predisposing them to lower serotonin levels in the brain - which can lead to a gloomier disposition - were more likely to maintain happier emotions when exposed to positive parenting,” US News & World Report said [1].

University of Denver professor Benjamin L. Hankin, author of the study said: “So if you're a parent, and you have a kid who has a difficult temperament, your parenting matters a lot. Being a positive parent can accomplish a lot."

“A weed will grow anywhere, but if you’re an orchid, you’re probably more reactive and responsive to your environment,” Hankin said. “If you have a really negative, punishing environment, you’re probably not going to grow up to be a beautiful orchid.”
