Do Mothers Make Less Money?

A National Bureau of Economic Research study [1] has found that “highly skilled women” lose between $230,000 to $359,000 of lifetime wages after having children, reported financial expert Jean Chatzky in the New York Daily News.

The study also concluded that “mothers are perceived, correctly or not, as less willing to be able to spend extra time working,” Chatzky wrote. “That lack of time is seen by some as a lack of commitment to the company – and it translates into smaller promotions and raises.”
