Dad Picked Seeing Kid Pitch Over His Job

When a South Carolina car salesman decided he was going to do whatever it took to attend the College World Series in Omaha if his son’s team made it to the series this year, he wasn’t kidding. Fifty-seven-year-old David Roth, who had no vacation days, quit his job at a car dealership so he could see the Father’s Day game (which his son’s South Carolina team won), according to news reports [1].

In response to the publicity the car dealership has received in light of Roth’s story, the owners released a statement to the media [2] saying: “I know many of you have expressed your concern for David not being able to take additional time off from work, however, as a family organization we all work as a team so all of our employees can spend as much time with their family as they need. In fact David’s peers worked diligently on Fridays and some Saturdays to provide David the time off he needed so he could watch his son play baseball.” (June 2011)
