Newest GOP Presidential Candidate: A Former At-Home Mom of Five, Foster Mom to 23.

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minnesota), who plans to announce her candidacy for president next week, started her political career because she was unhappy with the public school system, the New York Times [1]  reported, adding that she worked as a Treasury Department attorney “until her fourth child was born” and then she left the workforce.  “. . . [A] look at her life here [in Minnesota] shows that it was her role as a mother, both to her biological children and to her adolescent foster daughters, that spurred her to seek public office.” Bachmann has five biological children, ages 17-29, and had 23 foster children, the Times said.
