While U.S. breastmilk banks [1] have said their reserves of the milk are low, the USDA has urged parents not to frequent the banks, Time Magazine reported. “When human milk is obtained directly from individuals or through the Internet, the donor is unlikely to have been adequately screened for infectious disease or contamination risk,” the USDA said, though officials at the milk banks say they screen donors, pasteurize and process breastmilk donations.
