New Mom/Comedian Balances the Punchline and the Baby

The Boston Globe recently featured a rookie comic and screenwriter who, in November, auditioned for a spot on Nickelodeon's "Funniest Mom in America 3" contest when she was eight months pregnant. She learned she'd advanced to the next level of the contest while still in the hospital after having given birth to her daughter, the paper reported. more

Las Vegas Group Supports Moms.

A Nevada businesswoman -- who four years ago
started a networking group for working moms, called the Moms in Business
Network -- was recently lauded by the Las Vegas Business Press as a groundbreaker. Her group -- which now has over 250 members and has lured high-profile corporate members - provides guidance to working moms, career advice, networking events and seminars. (April 2007) more

Motherhood in the Big Apple

A Brooklyn-based publication, The Brooklyn Rail, took on the many faces of motherhood in the big city in a recent piece entitled, "Mommy Wars in Brooklyn." Writer Amanda Darrach Filippone interviewed both working moms and at-home moms about their experiences and commonalities, including their mutual longing

Helping Female Execs Stay on Track

In an attempt to stave off the loss of female executives who leave the work force to care for children or their elderly parents, Kelly Watson has an idea: Job sharing. Watson’s executive headhunting firm, Career Partners, has been promoting the concept of having female executives job share while they’re in the midst of personal issues. "Right now, we’re burning through executives who are tired of working 70-hour weeks," she told the Salt Lake Tribune. more

Gestating in the Halls of Congress

A Washington congresswoman is set to be the fifth federal lawmaker to give birth while in office, according to press reports. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, who is due to deliver her first child in late May, found out she was pregnant while running for re-election last summer. more
