Score One for 'Grey's' Dr. Bailey
When Chandra Wilson won the Screen Actors Guild award for the best female actor in a TV drama for her role as a surgeon and new mom on "Grey's Anatomy," she said she couldn't wait to bring home the award to show her daughters to prove that, no matter how you look, you can still achieve. Report: U.S. Lags in Family-Friendly Workplace Policies
A new study by Harvard and McGill University researchers concluded that the United States doesn't provide nearly the same number and quality of family-friendly workplace policies as do other nations, USA Today reported. After surveying 173 countries, the study's authors found that the United States is one of five without mandatory paid maternity leave. more
The Definition of Multi-Tasking
The Washington Post's parenting blog, "On Balance" had an intriguing post this past week about the leader of a Washington D.C.-based working and at-home moms group - the Wednesday Morning Group -- who, while introducing a speaker at the gathering, did so while nursing her baby. One Third of Moms Send Kids to Daycare, School Sick
Working Mother Magazine conducted conducted a study of moms and found that one in three send their child to school and/or daycare while the child is ill, most because they say they can't take time off. "Moms often serve as the family health manager, a responsibility that becomes even more difficult for working moms during cold and flu season," Carol Evans, CEO and founder of Working Mother Media said. more
