Fed Report Provides Data on Working Families.
A recent report released by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics found that among the 34.5 million American families with children, “the share of married-couple families where both parents worked fell to 58.1 percent in 2010 from 58.9 percent in 2009.”
The number of working mothers with children under the age of 18 was 70.8 percent in 2010, a decrease from the previous year’s 71.4 percent.
But the numbers were different when the children were under 6 years old. Among moms with children ages 6 and under, 63.9 percent of them were working in 2010. For those with babies (under age 1), the rate of working moms comprised 56.5 percent last year. (April 2011)
