University of Massachusetts researchers have released a study which found that married, white, college-educated professionals/managers receive the largest salary increase when they became fathers and that "fathers of all racial and ethnic groups get a salary bump," Time Magazine reported.


"One of the most intriguing explanations for the pesky and persistent gender gap in wages is that becoming a mother tends to depress a woman’s ability to earn, while becoming a father has the opposite effect, especially among white-collar workers," Time reported. (January 2011)
