Breastfeeding Sometimes Hard for Working Moms

A new survey found that, despite the urging of doctors and health experts to breastfeed babies for a year, 32 percent of moms stop nursing at the seven week mark because they say it’s too difficult to maintain while at work, particularly if a mom is in the retail business. The survey, by the National Women’s Health Resource Center and Medela also found: Forty-four percent of working moms said they didn’t nurse as long as they wanted to and 23 percent blamed work. Working moms said that things such as a lack of a private placed to express breastmilk and an inflexible schedule were obstacles to continued nursing. (May 2007)
