Juggling is Hard Work

writer Greg Burns said that the American workplace “has become an increasingly hostile environment for raising children, at least from an economic standpoint.” While applauding the innovative, though rare, employers who offer flex-time and other family-friendly policies, Burns wrote:

 

“Undoubtedly, a full-time job can be rewarding in many ways, and that is an important draw for women in the workplace. It also can be crucial for future self-sufficiency. With men's wages stagnating, a woman's job may be the only practical means for most families to move up the economic food chain andafford such ever-more-expensive luxuries as college educations. But just try it while wrangling a herd of kids.” (October 2007
