Re-scheduling Court Dates for Family Obligations

Work-life balance advocates cheered while some in the legal community raised a skeptical eyebrow after learning that attorneys in a New York bankruptcy case asked the judge to re-scheduled hearings because the original hearing dates were in the middle of the lawyers’ children’s Christmas breaks. Wall Street Journal blogger Sara Schaefer Munoz reached Center for Work-Life Policy president Sylvia Ann Hewlett who applauded the request. Munoz wrote that Hewlett “has been a proponent of structural change in the workplace and in various professions to allow employees to achieve more work-life balance . . . Ms. Hewlett said this request was a promising step in that direction.” (October 2007)
